Carson-Newman University’s Theatre Program and Music Department presents the timeless classic “Mary Poppins,” Nov. 13-16, 2025

Carson-Newman theater presents “Mary Poppins”: a guaranteed “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” musical adventure.

The production is directed by Kyle Biery, Carson-Newman’s Charles Fuller Chair of Drama.  A musical, “Mary Poppins” features music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and a book by Julian Fellowes. The musical is based on the similarly titled “Mary Poppins” children’s books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film and is a fusion of various elements from the two, including songs from the film.

Set in 1910, the musical follows Bert and the troubled Banks family living in England. The group, including children Jane and Michael Banks, are visited by a new nanny named Mary Poppins, who takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures. Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom Poppins has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Featuring a cast of some 30 members, the production team, along with Biery, includes Cody Boling as musical director and Liza Rutherford as choreographer.
