Rep. Andrew Farmer applauds city of New Market for receiving parks and recreation grant

State Rep. Andrew Farmer, R-Sevierville, is congratulating the city of New Market for receiving a $1,046,225 grant awarded through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Office of Outdoor Recreation. The funding was awarded through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund.

The funding is part of more than $20 million in grant awards recently announced by TDEC to improve parks and outdoor recreation across Tennessee. New Market’s award will support the New Market Playground and Archery Center project.

“Quality parks and recreation facilities help make our communities great places to live, work and raise a family,” said Farmer. “This investment will expand outdoor recreational opportunities for New Market residents of all ages. I appreciate the local and state leaders who helped secure this funding for the community.”

The Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) received $18,490,470 and requires an equal match. The state-funded program supports local investments in parks, natural areas, greenways, recreation facilities, trail development and related capital projects.

The city of New Market is one of 19 communities across Tennessee receiving funding through this round of LPRF Program grants.

Rep. Andrew Farmer represents District 17, which includes part of Jefferson and Sevier counties.
