This week, Jefferson County High School performed their annual senior playat Carson-Newman University. This year’s production of choice was the well-known Footloose.  The level of talent displayed by these young adults was astounding. The casting was excellent, with each role being brought to life by the actor/actress in question. Despite the fact that these students have no professional training in acting, not once was the audience taken out of the moment: clearly, a staggering amount of preparation and hard-work went into this production. That being said, it must be made clear that the play would have been impossible if not for the devotion shown by those behind-the-scenes. Scene changes and other effects were handled quickly and effectively, and the synchronization behind the music, itself, was top-notch. Similarly, the choreography behind the production was very advanced and was presented cleanly: seeing as how the play was Footloose, this is no small feat. The overall feel of the production was kept intact, and it never felt as if the audience was watching a high school drama. Quite simply, the production was more than what someone could possibly expect from such a young cast, and was a wonderful example of the diversity of the students at Jefferson County High School. The Class of 2013 delivered at wonderful show that will join those of previous years in the vault of theatrical successes performed as a graduation gift from the Class of 2013 to Jefferson County.
