As the grocery shelves become crammed full to the point of overflowing with chocolate bunnies, bright candies, and every type of egg dying kit possible, the tradition of Easter seems to be ever more developing into a commercial holiday. However, there are still many local citizens who actively celebrate the ancient meaning of the holiday. This was proven to those who attended the New Market Baptist Church’s annual “Trail to the Empty Tomb,” production, which took place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. The “Trail” is a drive-thru event depicting the story of Jesus Christ with live actors: even the animals are alive. The turnout for the production was steady and impressive, with consistently long lines that were too long for the church’s parking lot alone to handle. Each vehicle received a cd and/or radio with corresponding audio for the scenes. The production has received high acclaim in the surrounding community, and has also managed to attract many men and women who have attended the event for all three nights.
