It has been a long-standing tradition of both young and old to partake in the annual Easter festivities that become so abundant in the area this time of year. The most popular of these festivities is, undoubtedly, the numerous Easter egg hunts. The tradition of Easter eggs come from the lost symbolism associated with the eggs themselves. In the Christian religion, the egg itself is symbolic of the tomb of Christ. Resembling the stone of Christ’s grave, at first it appears empty. However, the hatching of a bird from an egg brings new life, similar to that of Christ’s arising on the third day: what we call Easter. This hatching and the egg as a whole is meant to stand as a reminder to Christians that Jesus rose from his grave. The First Baptist Church of Dandridge embraced this ancient tradition in their own annual egg hunt. The turn out was quite spectacular, with an even mix of people from all age groups attending. The countless smiles on the faces of everyone present made it quite clear that the spirit of the holiday was in full bloom, as the children scrambled to collect their colorful treasures.
