Lady Eagles clinch win on the road

Carson-Newman (5-7) brought home a 5-4 win after travelling to North Greenville University (2-8) Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles clinched the match at no. 4 singles when Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) came out on top with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Haley Hardwick. At no. 2 singles, Patricia Guerriero (Portugal) handily defeated Maggie Elliott 6-1, 6-3. Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) beat Rebecca Beacham in the no. 3 spot in two close sets resulting 7-6 (10-5), 6-4.

Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) had success in sight but fell to Muriel Adib in a third set tiebreaker. The final match score was 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.

In doubles play, the no. 3 team of Sanderson and Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) secured a win against Beacham and Victoria Gomez 9-7. Chastain and Ott triumphed over Aline Ribeiro and Adib in the no. 2 spot with an 8-4 conclusion.

The Eagles continue on the road facing Covenant on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
