Eagles sweep Covenant on the road

Carson-Newman (6-7) ran through Covenant College (1-8) 9-0 in Chattanooga on Friday afternoon.

In singles play, Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) kicked off the wins for the Eagles at no. 2 beating Sarah Carter 6-0, 6-1. Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed suit triumphing over Kelsey Whitted 6-1, 6-1 in the no. 3 spot. At no. 1 singles, Stefy Stand (Ecuador) won 6-4, 6-2 against Gretchen Rowe.

Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) brought in another victory with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Catherine Landers in the no. 5 singles spot. At no. 4, Jen Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) won 6-0, 6-1 over Anne Marie Rowe. In the no. 6 position, Tiffany Delias (Morristown, Tenn.) beat Sara Kathryn Cole with a final score of 6-0, 6-2.

The team of Sanderson and Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) began the doubles play winning streak for Carson-Newman with an 8-0 sweep against Landers and Cole in the no. 3 spot. At no. 2 doubles, Ott and Chastain found success versus Rowe and Rowe finalizing 8-2. Stand and Guerreiro completed the Eagle’s clean sheet beating Whitted and Carter 8-2 in the no. 1 spot.

Eagles pick back up with conference play on Monday against Lenoir-Rhyne at 1:30 p.m.
