Men’s tennis brings home big win

Carson-Newman (4-8) picked up a second straight victory by sweeping Covenant (0-12) 9-0 on the road on Friday.

In singles play, Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) defeated Jeffrey Cox in the no. 3 spot 6-0, 6-0. In the no. 1 position, Juan Perez (Ecuador) swept Roy Anderson 6-0, 6-0. Dalton Moore (Gate City, Va.) went 6-0, 6-0 against Kevin Lambert at no. 5.

Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) continued the win streak at no. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 against Coulter Burch. At no. 4, Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) beat Cameron Anderson 6-0, 6-1. Daniel Douglas found victory against Seth Thompson with a 6-1, 6-1 final decision at no. 6 singles.

The team of Birdsong and Holdway swept Cox and Anderson 8-0 at no. 2 singles. At no. 3 singles, Moore and Douglas conquered the pair of Lambert and Thompson with a final score of 8-0. In the no. 1 spot, Perez and Mackay went 8-1 versus Anderson and Burch.

The Eagles continue conference play against Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
