Errors undo Eagles against Limestone

Carson-Newman (14-21) made six errors leading to four unearned runs as Limestone (18-16) used the Eagles’ defensive miscues to take a 4-2 decision over Carson-Newman Tuesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field.

The Eagles used small ball tactics to push two across between the third and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead on the Saints.

In the third, Trace Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) used a bunt single – the only hit of the day for Carson-Newman – to plate Bryan Evarhart (Greeneville, Tenn.) from third. In the fourth, Evan Jurjevic (New Carlisle, Ind.) sent Peter Rajkovich (Stockton, Calif.) home on a sacrifice groundout to short.

Limestone tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth before taking the lead for good on Josh Greene sacrifice fly to center field.

Carson-Newman threatened in the sixth when the Saints’ pitching staff walked and then hit a batter to load the bases with two out. However, Kevin Franchetti (Highland, Ind.) struck out to end the frame with no damage done.

J.M. Spangler picked up the win on the bump for the Saints after surrendering the lone hit of the game for the Saints’ pitching staff in 5.2 innings of work.

Clayton Eames (Hoschton, Ga.) took the loss in relief (0-2) after surrendering the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Because of the Eagles’ errors, the Saints only had one RBI on the day – Greene’ on the sacrifice fly.

Carson-Newman stays on the road for a SAC series Friday with Newberry.
