Do You Know That?

caroline-graham-swann-small2Do you know that after all those chocolate bunnies, peeps, jelly beans  and fine boxes of chocolates filled with caramel, maple crème, cocoanut and so many more delights have been consumed, it is time to hop back on the wagon and loose those pounds that  such temptations add to the hips?

Believe me, after such abandoned feasting, I know how hard it is to once again turn away from the sweetness of giving in to the passion of those “mouth watering” candies.

Darling reader’s, do not think the problems of dieting are just of this era.  Fortunately, one does have the aid of many support systems, Jenny Craig, Nutria-System, green coffee beans, low carob, low fat, …even medical clinics that help one loose weight during this time in history.

Just think about this next bit of information and be thankful that we have so much to lean on while becoming leaner.

Do you know that during the middle and late 1800’s, tapeworms were swallowed by women wanting to loose weight???  Yes, that is correct, tapeworms were advertised as being cleaned and guaranteed to bring about a smaller waist!!! This makes me cringe, just the mere thought of such.   Modern medicine has discovered how dangerous tapeworms are to the brain, lungs, kidneys and the human body in general.

This is certainly taking suffering for beauty to the extreme!

Do you know that during this same era, mid to late 1800’s, women actually had ribs removed to make their waists smaller?!!   How painful and dangerous this must been with limited anesthesia and surgical instruments not being refined at that period of history.

Do you know that the point of my reporting this gruesome practice for solving weight problems or fashion trends is to promote healthy ways to loose weight?

Let’s start with natural ways to shake the pounds off.

Do you know that  turmeric, a natural spice that may be bought in the spice section of the grocery store, stabilizes blood sugar and cuts fat, ginger, the delicious root so popular in Chinese, Asian and the flavor for many foods from exotic islands, aids digestion, promotes urination and is a ancient  treatment for nausea?-c

Do you know that cayenne pepper, is a natural appetite suppressant, the capsaicin in the hot spicy pepper is the blessing for weight loss, black pepper, aids with nutrient absorption?

Do you know that vinegar is an ancient weight loss treatment, Hollywood stars thrive on a daily dose of vinegar…and Gypsy women have a formula composed mainly of vinegar that is a long held secret for weight control?

A formula containing nearly all of these ingredients is one that I have adapted from the vinegar recipe from a few years back.

3 tablespoons vinegar

3 cloves garlic

3 tablespoons fresh minced ginger

1/4 teaspoon turmeric

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Truvia —add enough for individual taste

Mince the garlic, ginger, add rest of ingredients.   Use this on salads, vegetables, marinated peaches, apricots etc. in mixture—Consume this amount on a daily basis. Lemon juice is a natural diuretic.

Fruit marinated in this mixture is really good on natural yogurt.  Remember only Truvia to one’s taste.

This is a start for healthy weight loss. as one knows, the breads, potatoes, yummy sweets must be limited, eat protein, exercise–start slowly.   Do not expect to loose 25 pounds over night, it takes dedication to the healthier life style. Veggies, veggies. veggies, raw cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, green and red peppers, romaine lettuce, avocados in small amounts, are all great weight watches.

Of course, beauty tips are never a substitute for medical advice and consulting with a physician is always advisable when starting a new diet.

Remember that a healthy lifestyle is a beautiful thing! Until next week, eat well and take care of your bodies… swimsuit season is just on the horizon.
