Eagles take first in four events at Rome Shorter Invitational

Carson-Newman’s men and women’s track and field teams traveled to Shorter College, to compete in the Rome Shorter Invitational in Rome, Ga.

Both Eagle teams finished at respectably high positions with 15 Eagles in top 10 positions and four in first place.

For the men’s group, sophomore Cassandine Blassingame landed in the first place spot in the men’s high jump and men’s long jump. Stephen Brown finished just behind Blassingame in the high jump with a silver medal.

This is the third time this season that Blassingame has placed first in the high jump and long jump. Blassingame also finished in third place in the Men’s Triple Jump.

Darius Childs took gold after he finished with a 15.32 in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

Sophomore Randall Freeman also finished in first place in the men’s shot put. This is also the second time this season that Freeman has thrown his way to the top of the podium in the shot put.

As for the rest of the men’s team, six Eagles finished in the top five in six different events.

On the ladies team, sophomore Amy Line led the women’s team in the pole vault, finishing in second places.

This is the first time this season, Line has finished in the top two in an event.

Line also notched a top 10 finish after taking sixth in the long jump.

Other top ten finishes for the women include sophomore Anna Bauder who finished in ninth in the 100 meter dash and junior Amanda Bowman who took ninth for the 1500 meter run.

The Eagles will compete again Saturday, April 6 in Spartanburg, S.C. in the Terrier Relays.
