Blassingame and Childs take the gold at the Wofford Invitational

Once again, sophomore Cassandine Blassingame grabbed the gold in the men’s long jump, Saturday at the Wofford Invitational.

Blassingame has managed to land in the first place spot for the long jump in the last four events this season.

His jump of 7.24 meters provisionally qualifies him for nationals.

On top of taking the gold, Blassingame finished a position ahead of freshman, team member Nico Boyd. The duo finished fourth and fifth respectively in the men’s triple jump. Blassingame also tied for fifth alongside fellow Eagle senior Stephen Brown in the high jump.

Darius Childs also took home a gold. It’s the second weekend the sophomore has taken the top spot on the podium for the men’s 110 meter hurdles. Childs also has improved his time from 15.32 to 15.21.

Senior Solomon Duanah grabbed the silver in the 100 meter dash and finished slightly ahead of team members freshman Jervasse Moss and sophomore Anthony Baskin who placed third and fourth.

Other Eagles who finished in high positions were sophomore Randall Freeman who got the silver in the men’s triple jump, Nico Boyd took third in the long jump and freshman Johnathan Chastain also got third in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

As for the women’s team, senior Hannah Reese led her heat and finished in fourth place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:57.35.

The women finished in the top 10 in four different events.

The Eagles will perform again April 11 in Knoxville, Tenn. at the Sea Ray Relays.
