Hay, Kim-Moss grab All-SAC first team spots

Carson-Newman men’s golfers Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) and Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) have earned first team all-conference honors from the South Atlantic Conference.

Both players tied with 73.97 scoring averages.

Hay made the all-conference first team in 2011 and 2012, while Kim-Moss was a 2012 first team selection.

“There’s a bit of competition trying to beat each other,” Hay said with a laugh. “I know when I’m ahead of him he gets a little angry. But he played a lot better golf then me in the fall, but I think I bettered him in the spring.”

Hay garnered three top 10 finishes in his senior season, including a tournament championship at the Tusculum Invitational.

Kim-Moss meanwhile picked up a pair of top 10 finishes. He took third at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational in October.

“Coach helped me pick out some things in my game that I could improve upon, putting was one of them and I think that helped set my game apart this year,” Kim-Moss said.

Hay said that he hasn’t felt any tension to garner individual awards, just to do his best on the course.

“I didn’t feel pressure. I was focused just on playing good golf,” Hay said. “I knew if I played well, it’d take care of itself.”

Accompanying Hay and Kim-Moss on the all-conference first team are Newberry senior Chandler Gruenemeier, Wingate senior Brian Denton, Brevard sophomore Kim Koivu and league player of the year LMU’s Jamie Chapman.

All-SAC performers were chosen by highest adjusted scoring average based on results from Golfstat.com.

Kim-Moss and Hay will be on display beginning Sunday at the SAC tournament at the Sevierville Country Club.
