Lady Eagles set for SAC Golf Tournament

The South Atlantic Conference tournament has been kind to Carson-Newman over the past four years. The Eagles own three of the top eight three-round totals at the league tournament and one year that is unranked (2011) C-N took home the title.

Carson-Newman is two years removed from that tournament championship in 2011. The Eagles have taken home a title in two of the last four years.

Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) leads C-N with an 80.28 adjusted stroke average. Chelsea Passmore (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) follow shortly behind with an 81.00 and 81.54.

C-N head women’s golf coach Mandy Moore said she hopes the tournament’s location – the Sevierville Golf Club – gives Carson-Newman an advantage.

“We are very excited to be able to play our conference tournament close to home this year at The Sevierville Golf Club,” Moore said. “We have been preparing for this event the entire year and I know the team is ready to compete this week.”

The Eagles tee off on the par-70, 5,811-yard Highlands Course at 10 a.m.

C-N opened the year at the SGC with its home event – the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate. The Eagles finished tied for sixth in that event, led by Hawkins’ two-round 157 (+17).

“I feel like we know the course well and that familiarity will hopefully give us an edge over some of the other teams,” Moore said.

Live scoring for the event will be available through cneagles.com.
