Eagles compete against Division I and Division II teams at Sea Ray Relay

The Carson-Newman track and field teams competed in the Sea Ray Relays this weekend again Division I and nationally-ranked Division II competition.

The men and women competed in 31 one events during the three-day event. The Eagles had several finishers in the top 10 and top 20 against that aforementioned top flight competition.

For the men’s team, senior Cassadine Blassingame finished in the top ten, taking sixth place in the men’s long jump. Since qualifying in the men’s long jump, Blassingame gained the position as an elite jumper.

“Cassadine is jumping with such confidence,” Head coach David Needs said, “He is attacking each jump with a mindset of getting better each time.”

Blassingame also finished just below the top ten with an 11thplace finish in the men’s triple jump, just a spot ahead of teammate Nico Boyd who took 12th

“He will be exciting to watch at the conference meet,” Needs said.

Freshman Stephen Brown also finished in the top 10, placing eighth in the men’s high jump.

On the women’s side, senior Hannah Reese raced against 27 opponents in the women’s 1500 meter run and placed 17th with a final time of 4:58.79.

The event was the first of the season where C-N did not come away with a golf medal. However, Blassingame was the top finisher in his events among Division II competition.

The Eagles will compete again on April 19 in Hickory, N.C. at the South East Regional Meet.
