Why is it still this cold?

I do not remember May being this cold. Is this seriously abnormal for this area at this time of the year and is this the coldest May on record?

While the past several years have certainly found May to be much hotter than it has been this year, this is not that unusual in the total scheme of recorded temperatures. Generally, East Tennessee averages temperatures in the low to mid seventies during the early part of May. Though we have had some days that have not reached that temperature, we really haven’t been that far off of the mark, generally speaking. The cool rain and windy conditions have made the weather appear much cooler than the thermostat actually reads. Records reflect that we have actually had frost as late as the last day of May. Snowfall records in other parts of the Nation have been shattered by recent storms, however locally we are just running slightly below normal. Of course, weather changes quickly in East Tennessee and we will likely be longing for these more temperate days when the heat waves of the Summer hit the area.
