The Jefferson County High School’s thirty-eighth commencement took place on Saturday, May 18th 2013 at the Walters State Expo Center in Morristown, Tennessee.  While it was rainy out, inside was full of excitement as family and friends gathered at the packed, morning event. 

The Jefferson County High school Band played for the graduates, as well as Bagpiper Kelly Shipes.  Graduating student’s Brooke Morris and Mason Thornton gave a vocal performance for the crowd. Dr. Scott Walker, Principle of Jefferson County High School, gave a speech to the graduates offering words of encouragement, as well as the recognition that there will be many choices in life ahead and praise for their accomplishments.

The diplomas were presented by Dr. Charles Edmonds, Director of Schools, Anne Marie Potts, Chair of the Board of School Commissioners, Bill Jarnigan, Vice Chair of the Board of School Commissioners, Dr. Scott Walker, Principal, Susan Roach, Mitizi Good, Bruce Davenport, Audrea Potter, and Jennifer Sanford School Counselors.

Over 600 students comprised the Class of 2013 and many were recognized for academic excellence during their tenure at Jefferson County High School. Sixty four students graduated with Honors and a total of forty three students were High Honors graduates. Over ninety students were graduating with State honors and sixty five students graduated with State distinctions. Over one hundred and twenty students received scholarships to continue their education.

The Class of 2013 had an impressive resume, with many students active in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, German Nation Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Key Club, H.O.S.A., Future Business Leaders of America, Senior Band Awards, Science Club and Skills USA.
