After years of decline and debate, Jefferson County High School Main Campus is in the beginning stages of renovation. The 30 year old flagship school will receive a $24 million dollar revamp and the start date for the project has finally arrived. Faculty and Staff at JCHS spent the last days of school preparing for the upcoming facelift and additions. As the last students exited the building last week, workers began the extensive renovation process. A schedule has been established to minimize the educational impact of the project and portable classrooms will be an integral part of the plan. Science labs and other classrooms will be housed in the portable units while the upgrades are being completed. The Patriot Academy, a satellite campus of JCHS, will also be utilized during construction. Director of Schools, Dr. Charles Edmonds, recently commended Facilities Director Michael Phagan and his staff for the intricate planning that is associated with the renovation project. Edmonds and Phagan expressed their appreciation of the JCHS faculty and staff for their flexibility during the course of renovations and their commitment to the success of the highly anticipated project. Completion of the project is tentatively expected to be July of 2015.
