Three weeks after losing to Cherokee, 4-2, Jefferson County got revenge in a big way run-ruling the Lady Chiefs 10-0. It is fair to say that while the players are the same, this is not the same Lady Patriot team that took the field just 3 weeks ago. During the Lady Patriots 1-8 start they committed 25 errors, they have only committed 4 in the last 5 games. Jefferson County has now won 7 of their last 8 games and 4 in a row in IMAC competition.

“ I think the first part of the season, the competition is paying off.” Head Coach Bekkah Massaro said of her teams’ recent success. “This is the team we expect to see more frequently, with solid defense and good hitting.”

Jefferson County would strike early as Summer Hayes would draw a walk and later be knocked in on a double by pitcher Leslie Odom. The Lady Patriots led 1-0 after one inning of play. Leslie Odom, as before mentioned, got the start on the hill. Odom retired the first 9 batters she faced in order. The Lady Patriots would really open the game up in the bottom of the third inning, plating 5 runs and taking a commanding 6-0 lead into the fourth. The Lady Chiefs would get their first hit of the contest in the fourth, but could not capitalize and were still held scoreless. The Lady Patriots would round out the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, adding 4 more runs. The Lady Chiefs would be retired in order in the fifth inning and the game was called by the home plate umpire by “run-rule”.

Jefferson County has now won their last 4 conference games by a combined score of 37-4 and are now 8-9 on the season after starting 1-8. They return home Thursday to play South Doyle High School.
