Jefferson County held their Breast Cancer Awareness Game Wednesday afternoon and while the game’s festivities and turnout was great to see for the Patriots, the game itself was not. Jefferson County trailed the entire game and at one point was down 14-2 before battling back.

Theresa Jurek, mother of JCHS assistant Zach Reese, made the ceremonious first pitch. “To see her out here 4 days after a procedure tossing out the first pitch, it was just a great night.” Head Coach Gaines Cox said. Outstanding Freshman pitcher Matt Bradley had an outing to forget, giving up 7 hits, 11 runs 9 of which were earned, and walking 4 in just 1.1 innings of work. “Matt has been solid for us all year and I hope this is just a blip on the radar for him.”

Like before mentioned, Jefferson County trailed 14-2 before a Malik Kyle 3-run home run in the bottom half of the fifth extended the game for the Patriots. Jefferson County trailed 14-5 after 5. The Patriots would plate 2 more runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough as they fell 14-7. “ I’m proud of us offensively fighting back and extending that game.” Jefferson County falls to 8-13 on the season.
