Strudwick Releases 2014 Fall Women’s Golf Schedule

Carson-Newman head women’s golf coach Suzanne Strudwick will see her squad take on five events in the fall of 2014, including two at PGA Tour event sites and another against Division I competition.  

The Eagles play host to the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate in Sevierville to begin the season before heading to Pinehurst for the Rollins Invitational. 

Trips to Etowah Valley, PGA National for the Guy Harvey Invitational and Keith Hills Country Club for Division I Campbell’s tournament round out the fall slate. 

“This is arguably our strongest fall season that this program could play.  It starts at a high difficulty level and finishes at a high echelon at the Division I level,” Strudwick said. “We’ll go to Pinehurst, to Etowah Valley and PGA National, we should know what we have to do to be among the best in the conference and the nation.”

Strudwick said the schedule has the potential to set the Eagles up for success on a conference, regional and national stage.  It will start with the SMI, which will be played on the River Course for the first time. 

Previously the SMI and the SAC Championship took place on the Highlands Course. 

“It’s a great opportunity to play on a superior golf course,” Strudwick said. “The River Course will favor bigger hitters, but some of the approaches to the greens are easier than the Highlands Course.  Length off tee is a premium, but it’s a more forgiving course to those who hit good shots.”

Carson-Newman opens up the slate on Sept. 6 with the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate.  A College-Am precede that event on Sept. 5.
