Press Release from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department

June 2014 Sheriff McCoig received information that an employee Deputy Aaron Scott Winstead age 20, who was assign to the Jail, was bringing drugs and tobacco to inmates in the Jail.

June 25th 2014 Sheriff McCoig observed Deputy Aaron Scott Winstead bring tobacco and Suboxone to the Jail.

Deputy Winstead was relieved of duty and Sheriff McCoig contacted the TBI to assist in this investigation.

Aaron Scott Winstead age 20 was charged by the Grand Jury 8/25/2014 with: Attempted Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility, Possession of Suboxone with intent to Deliver, and Official Misconduct.

Aaron Scott Winstead was arrested and booked 8/26/2014 and released on $10,000 bond. Court date is set for September 15, 2014.
