WSCC Sevier County Campus Auditions “The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee”

Walters State’s Sevier County Campus will present “The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee” as its spring music and theatre production. Amber Williamson, instructor of music, is directing the play. Auditions are open to both students and members of the community.

This one-act musical comedy follows four quirky teens participating in an equally quirky spelling bee. This comedy does have one unusual feature: four real audience members are invited to join in the competition. This audience participation plays heavily to improvisation and makes each performance different.

The play is set for March 27-29, but auditions will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in the dance studio inside the Conner-Short Center on the Sevier County Campus. Those auditioning should be prepared to perform 32 bars from any musical theatre work. Dress nice, but comfortable. Wear clothing appropriate for a possible dance portion of the audition. Those auditioning may bring sheet music, as an accompanist will be available. Accompaniment CDs are also acceptable.

In addition to actors, Williamson is looking for individuals to help with lighting, sound, backstage and costumes. Musicians for a pit orchestra are also needed.
