Personnel Committee Begins Search for Veteran Services Officer

The Jefferson County Personnel Committee met last week, with the major item on the agenda being the recommendation of a replacement for former Veteran’s Services Officer Matt Underwood.

Three of the five committee members were present: Chairman Russel Turner, Bob Beeler, and Rob Blevins. Chairman Turner, a retired veteran of military service, noted that, due to the services provided by the Veteran Services Officer, and the exodus of personnel both inside and outside of Jefferson County, expediency in replacing Underwood is important. However, he also voiced concern that the selected candidates have strong IT skills and be self-motivated. Beeler, Blevins, and the Chair reviewed the proposed job description, accepting it for publishing and determined a timeline for the interview process.

The successful candidate must have an honorable discharge from any branch of military service and must have a federal background check, due to sensitive information that the person will deal with on a daily basis. Applications will be accepted through July 16, 2015. The Committee will meet on Friday, July 17, 2015 to vet applications and interviews will be conducted on Monday, July 20, 2015. The full public notice of the position opening can be found in the Public Notice section of the Jefferson County Post.

In other action, the Committee approved former meeting minutes and Vice Chairman Blevins will also serve as Secretary.
