Cool Interactive Play for a Hot Summer

Growing YearsWith the hot summer temperatures, children often are prone to staying indoors. Get them outside with sun screen and water. Here are two ways to cool them off while they indulge in active play. Be sure to watch for safety and sun exposure.

Pool Noodle Waterfall:

– Foam pool noodle

– Plastic shopping bags

– Duct tape

– Nail

– Garden hose

Directions:

– Stuff the shopping bag in one end of the noodle to close it

– Sealing it with duct tape

– Use the nail to poke holes in one straight line along the length of the noodle starting six inches from the opposite end

– Wiggle the nail to widen each hole slightly

– Push the end of the hose into the open side of the noodle Hang the noodle up in the air

– Turn on the water

Bubbly Slip and Slide:

– Plastic sheeting (available at home improvement stores)

– Dish soap

– Garden hose

– Tent stakes or duct tape

Directions:

– Unroll the plastic sheeting and spread it down the length an incline in your yard (make sure it is clear from objects such as trees for safety sake

– Stake or duct tape the top and bottom corners of the plastic to secure it

– Wet the slide thoroughly

– Leave a light stream of water running down it

– Squirt dish soap at the top to make it slippery
