Not only did last week’s snow provide a fun time for kids to get some extra days off of school, but the winter weekend also saw a bit of mischief.  Dandridge’s Field of Dreams was the victim of vandalism, as an unknown person drove on to field 3 and did donuts in their car, causing significant damage to the outfield on either Saturday or Sunday night.

“It just makes you sick. The city of Dandridge and the community works so hard to keep these fields in good shape,” a representative from South Jefferson Little League said Thursday. “This is a place for children to come to play, and to have someone do this intentionally, it’s just wrong.”

Gregg Gann, Director of Dandridge Public Works, stated that there was approximately $500 worth of damage done to the field. “Its going to be a lot of handwork. We’re going to have to rake it and sand it.  We’re really going to have to baby it to get the grass to come up in time for the kids to be able to play on it, without doing any further damage.”

The vandal was able to gain access through an emergency gate that was left unlocked; the gate has since been locked.

According to the little league’s Facebook page, a good Samaritan has offered a $200 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved.  Anyone with any information can call South Jefferson Little League at 865-313-4842 or contact the Dandridge Police Department at 865-397-8862.
