Carson-Newman University a signature sponsor for annual Todd Collins and Dr. Chris Jones Golf Classic

Carson-Newman University is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley to raise money for local children, serving as
signature sponsor for the 2017 Annual Todd Collins & Dr. Chris Jones Golf Classic. The event is April 26 at Patriot Hills Golf Club in Jefferson City.

“This is just a great opportunity to benefit our children in need.” said Carson-Newman President J. Randall O’Brien. “I want to invite members of the greater East Tennessee community to join us for a day of fun and fellowship to benefit the important work of our local Boys & Girls Clubs.”

The first flight begins at 8:15 a.m., with the second flight starting at 1
p.m. Proceeds from the classic will benefit children at the Jefferson City, White Pine and Strawberry Plains branches that make up the Boys & Girls Club of Dumplin Valley.

“We have always been sincerely appreciative of Carson-Newman for all their support for our Clubs over the past several years,” said Jessica Page, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club. “It is an honor when a  University extends help and support to a group that ultimately can benefit
from them now as children and as possible students in the future.”

The event’s namesakes come from two members of the Carson-Newman community. Collins is a former Carson-Newman linebacker who went on to a professional career with the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams; Jones is a Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame member and former Carson-Newman basketball standout who was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals, returning as head coach at Carson-Newman in 1981.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley seeks to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as
productive, responsible and caring citizens; preparing them for the future while allowing them to enjoy their childhood.
