Betts Seeks Commission Seat in 10th District

BettsMy name is Dean Betts and I am running for County Commissioner in the 10th District. My wife Ellen and I have been residents of Jefferson County for 14 years and have come to greatly appreciate the area. For 24 years I was a small business owner of an engineering consulting firm serving the electric utility industry. After a forty year career I retired in 2010 to a peaceful life in Jefferson County. I am a Vietnam era veteran who served in the Navy for six years and am a member of the American Legion.

Like many people I had not actively participated in local politics other than voting. My lack of involvement changed last December when I read the article about the Animal Shelter ceasing its open surrender policy. At that point I decided to become engaged and began attending County Commission meetings. I met many dedicated individuals at these meetings, including Bob Beeler, the retiring District 10 Commissioner. Bob encouraged my community involvement and urged me to seek the County Commission seat he would be vacating.

I will work towards expanding Broadband access; promote sustainable business development in keeping with the wishes of the residents
and ensure that taxpayer funds are conservatively managed. My years in consulting and project management should provide a level of experience that will serve me well as a County Commissioner.

I believe I can contribute to the community in a useful capacity and respectfully ask for your vote.
