Maury Hornets Shut Out Rutledge Pioneers 30-0

Tuesday, September 3rd, two undefeated teams clashed head to head, both being determined to keep their winning streak alive. Maury Middle School Hornets and Rutledge Middle School Pioneers met on the gridiron and the team that came out on top was Dandridge’s own Maury Middle School with a final score of thirty to zero.
In the first eight minute quarter, Rutledge received the kickoff and tried to move the lines down to their goal, however the drive ended in a failed fourth conversion. Maury recovered their own fumble but also failed in a fourth down conversion. Rutledge’s next drive had an outstanding run by Feifel that was stopped by Tyler Franklin. Rutledge used their first timeout, but found no relief as Maury’s defense stopped the drive and ending in another failed fourth conversion.
The second quarter, Maury Hornet, Camen Cody, had two excellent catches in Maury’s second drive. Soon after Maury struck first and scored a passing touchdown drive by Seal, they also scored a two point conversion, making the score eight to zero. Rutledge’s next drive ended when Jacob Carnes caught a pass for the interception. Maury ended the quarter with a good drive but led to no more points.
Maury’s first drive of the third quarter led to a touchdown, with a two point conversion, giving Maury a bigger lead, with a score of sixteen to zero. Rutledge’s next drive ended when Maury’s defense forced them to punt, giving the Hornets the possession to end the quarter.
The Hornets scored again in the fourth quarter, upping the ante another eight points, for a score of twenty-four to zero. Rutledge’s Feifel caught a pass for a first down at it was looking good for the Pioneers to put some points on the board but the momentum was stopped by another Maury interception. The Hornets struggled to find their groove during the start of the next drive and a well executed fake put them back on track to yet another touchdown on a carry by Seal. This time the two point conversion fell short, ending the game with a score of thirty to zero.
