Jefferson County Patriots took to the road on Friday night looking for redemption and they found it on the Seymour Eagles field. Though the game play was hindered by penalties on both sides of the ball, the Patriots managed to overcome early mistakes that put 5 points on the board for the Eagles. After a dicey start, Jefferson County found its groove, led by Darius Jones. The Patriots hit the locker room at the half with a comfortable 21-5 lead over the Eagles. Seymour struggled to find the end zone and couldn’t answer Jones’ early in the second half score that moved Jefferson County to a 28-5 lead over the home team. Following a fumble and penalty for the Eagles, the Patriots found the end zone for the fifth time, leaving the score at 35-5. Mid way into the third quarter, Seymour came to life and moved the ball for a first and goal. A pass from Eagles quarterback Sexton ended in a touchdown and Seymour threw again for a two point conversion. The Patriots answered with a field goal and the Eagles put six more on the board and made a successful two point conversion. Though the Eagles would score one more time, Jefferson County’s Jones took the question out of the game when he made an 80 yard play, moving the final score to 45-28, with the Patriots claiming victory. Jefferson County will be on the road again as they take on William Blount Governors on September 27, 2013, before returning home on October 4th for their highly anticipated homecoming game against Cocke County High School.
