Local attorney Daniel Estes has announced that he is seeking the Republican Party nomination for County Clerk in the May 2014 primary. Rick Farrar, who has served as Jefferson County’s County Clerk for 36 years, is retiring. “Mr. Farrar deserves the highest praise for his career-long service to Jefferson County as our County Clerk,” Estes stated.

Estes is energized about the prospect of serving as County Clerk. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve Jefferson County as County Clerk and am ready to take on the duties of the office. My work, both as a County Commissioner and as an attorney, has prepared me well to take on this responsibility,” he noted. The County Clerk serves as clerk to County Commission; processes car titles, wheel tax, and marriage licenses; and also serves as Probate Court Clerk.

If elected, I will run a professional and efficient office and will make serving the citizens of Jefferson County my highest priority. I will treat everyone not just as a customer, but as a neighbor and friend,” Estes added.

Estes is a fifth generation native of Jefferson County. He attended Jefferson County schools through high school, and graduated from Tusculum College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Estes is also a graduate of Leadership Jefferson County. He met his wife, Audre, while attending Regent Law School. They made their home in Talbott after graduation, and started their own small business, The Estes Law Firm.

While his wife is now an attorney for the Department of Children’s Services, Estes continues to work in his law practice, concentrating on estate planning and probate, real estate, and juvenile law. He is a County Commissioner from the 9th District in Talbott and is serving his fourth year as County Commission’s parliamentarian. He is also serving his third year on Jefferson County’s Finance Committee, previously as Vice-Chair, and currently as Chairman. Estes grew up singing in a gospel music group with his extended family, which he continues to do. He and his wife are members of New Market Baptist Church.
