Lifelong resident and current Chairman of the Jefferson County Commission has announced his candidacy for the office of Jefferson County Mayor for the upcoming Primary Election in May and General Election in August.

It’s time that we unite this county again and focus on positive results for the taxpayers. Together we can accomplish so much, but divided we can’t,” says Mills. “Along with my experience in public service and county government, I believe I have the qualities necessary for the important job of Jefferson County Mayor. During my years as commissioner and Chairman, I have made every effort to be open and fair with those whom I serve and will make a commitment to honest and transparent government in our county. This is a crucial time for Jefferson County, and we need a leader who will work to put the people of this county first.”

Mills has served as a Jefferson County Commissioner since September 2006. During his tenure as commissioner, he has served on various committees, including six years on the Budget Committee. Also, Mills is currently serving his fourth consecutive term as Chairman of the Commission. Mills says, “The opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Commission has been challenging and trying, but it has been an extremely rewarding experience, for which I’m thankful.”

Since 1997 Mills has been employed in the Engineering Department at Appalachian Electric Cooperative. Prior to his employment at Appalachian Electric, he worked 10 years in a family owned home improvement business. Also, since April 2010 Mills has served as Worship Leader at Panther Springs United Methodist Church in Morristown, TN. Mills will be taking a brief leave from his work at Appalachian Electric to focus on his campaign and his commitment to the people of this county.

Mills has been married to his wife, Sabine Splinter Mills, for 27 years. She is employed by Dandridge Christian Learning Center, located at First Baptist Church of Dandridge. They have four daughters: Noelle, married to Thomas W. Carter; Chelsea, married to Jon Phillip McCloy; Michaela, a senior at Jefferson County High School; Samantha, a sophomore at Jefferson County High School. They also have one grandson, Brayden Carter.

Mills stated, “I can’t think of a better place to raise a family than Jefferson County. With the addition of our first grandson, there are now four generations of our family living here. I am running for this office because I have a tremendous desire to see this county reach its full potential, not only as a peaceful and beautiful place to live, but as a place which provides strong opportunities for our current residents and future generations.
