Mayor Alan Palmieri Seeking Re-election

Jefferson County Mayor Alan Palmieri

Jefferson County Mayor Alan Palmieri

It has been an honor to serve the people of Jefferson County, and I would like to have the privilege to continue to serve for a last term. I say last because I do believe in term limits and feel three terms should be the maximum number for the office of Mayor in Jefferson County.

Like many Chief Elected Officials, I have had the distinction of serving during the worst economic times since the Great Depression. The road has been rough, and in some cases no road existed at all. Still, some progress has been made. I feel more progress could be made if our political leaders would focus on issues instead of petty egos, personalities, and power plays. These serve no one’s best interest, not even those who initiate such tactics.

I am not a member of County Commission and I do not have a vote, but anyone can see the lack of leadership has resulted in division and continual controversy over what needs to be done.

Locally, knee-jerk reaction, instead of a solid plan of action, is the normal way the county has functioned for the last four years. This lack of leadership, experience, and planning has done damage not only for the present time but for future generations as well.

The immediate future holds some of the most challenging times our county could face. Experience is needed more now than ever.

I am proud of the fact I helped spearhead our scholarship program that allows every Jefferson County graduating senior the opportunity to attend Walters State Community College free of charge. I pushed for and saw through the new E911/EMS/Ambulance Safety Complex, which provides the very best care and state of the art capabilities for our residents. I have stood firm against wasteful spending and actions that result in reckless tax increases. I believe in accountability, not only for public money but also government actions. I have openly conducted the business of the Mayor’s office and I have taken a stand on all issues, regardless of the political consequences.

I am committed to serving the residents of our county. I believe in our people. I believe in a better Jefferson County. With the help of the people we can do better than what we have been doing.
