Samuel Doak Chapter attends East TN NSDAR Luncheon
The Annual East Tennessee Daughters of the American Revolution Spring Luncheon in Johnson City, Tennessee, on March 8, 2014, was held at the Johnson City Country Club. Six Samuel Doak Chapter NSDAR Members attending the luncheon were L to R front row: Ellen Betts, and Librarian Jane Hersch, back row: Barbara Baker, First Vice Regent Linda Handel, Registrar Joyce Damon, Marilynn Pack, and her guest Fay Ramsey, a NSDAR member of the Major George Gibson Chapter of Virginia.
The guest speaker was Charlene S. Ehret, MPA, FACHE Director of the James A. Quillen VA Medical Center. She told the DAR Members about the Mountain Home VA facility’s history which began after the Civil War for the treatment and care of Union Soldiers, the current needs, and the future plans for serving the veterans in Johnson City, TN, and in numerous VA Centers throughout East Tennessee. She emphasized that every penny the VA receives goes for the veterans. If there will be any improvements made to the facility, it will have to be funded by Congress. A VA wish list was given to the DAR Members for gift item suggestions for Christmas.
