Leaf watchers should really enjoy the next few weeks, as color seeps into the Tennessee valley. The highest elevations are peaking, so those planning a trip up top should probably hit the trails sooner rather than later. While Clingmans Dome is generally a wonderful location to view color, watchers should be aware that recent high winds have stripped some of the trees in the highest reaches a little early. Not to worry, however, as there are plenty of areas that were not as impacted by the weather. Good hiking and hues can be found on the Appalachian Trail toward Silers Bald. Those looking to stay a little lower can find color on Little River and Laurel Creek Roads.

In the Valley, the change is coming on nicely and looks to be on time for a peak around Halloween. Oranges are joining the reds and yellows, as maples join the mix of trees that are now starting to change. Fall wildflowers are still beautiful and the wet weather should help all of the foliage, as the hills of Tennessee begin to truly burn bright with color. All of this, of course, brought to you via information from professional watchers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
