ANNA RUTH “WALTERS” LOY

Anna Ruth Walters Loy, age 96, passed away on March 16, 2015. Ruth was born in Union County on June 21, 1918. Attending high school she played varsity basketball, won the Union County Footrace, and was in the Fairest of the Fair Court. Upon construction of Norris Dam her family moved to Jefferson County where she graduated from Carson Newman College in 1941. Ruth taught school for almost 40 years combined at Piedmont and Jefferson Elementary Schools. Ruth was a loyal member and teacher at Loy Memorial United Methodist Church, then First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Napolean Walters and Lillie Maude Walters, husband, Emert R. Loy, siblings, Hazel Walters Butcher, Mossie Lee Haworth, John Walters, and Ed Walters. She is survived by son, Robert E. Loy and daughter, Marilyn (Eddie) Morgan, granddaughters, Kelly Morgan and Melody (Garrett) Burgner, and three great granddaughters, Kayle, Marley, and Zoey Burgner, two sisters, Nell Mitchell and Polly Stiner, also many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to the dedicated team of care givers, Jerry, Frieda, JoAnn, Bennie, Sharon, Paulette, and the Darby House. Warmest thanks to the professional staff at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Wilder and Rev. Dennis Loy officiating. Graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
