The Jefferson County Lady Patriots advanced to the IMAC District Championship after a big win Saturday Night against South Doyle.  The bracket found JCHS facing the Morristown West Lady Trojans once again.

In first quarter of play, MoWest pulled ahead quickly, showing off why they are currently #5 in the state, but Jefferson County’s girls were not going down like that.  They rallied in a few points to end the first quarter, but found some fire offensively. A bucket from the field by JCHS’s Makaila Woolard, and a layup by Ryleigh Fritz, powered a comeback run for the Lady Patriots, who would end the half down by only one point, 20-19.

The Jefferson County Girls came out for the second half ready to continue to battle, and Morristown West was not going to take the challenge lightly.  Most of the third quarter consisted of a battle of the defenses.  Tori Griffin grabbed several big rebounds, brought them down the court with style, and made them count.  The Lady Patriots pulled ahead for a good part of the fourth quarter, but fell behind in the final minutes of the game.  The Lady Trojans took advantage of brief hole in the Patriots’ defense, and, following a couple of questionable foul calls, caused the biggest margin of the game with just over a minute left.  The Lady Patriots fell just short of the IMAC District Championship, 54-37, earning a runner up.

Congratulations are also in order for Tori Griffin, Makaila Woolard, and Ryleigh Fritz, who were awarded both all district, and all tournament honors.

The Jefferson County Lady Patriots will now advance to the Regional Championships, which will start on Friday, February 26.  The girls will be going head-to-head against Tennessee High.
