Local Sharon Manning Brings Back Gardening Techniques Of Yesteryear
The Dandridge General Store is excited to announce that local artist Sharon Manning will be offering classes in several areas to the community, starting in April. Manning, who is well known for her extraordinary baskets, will be bringing both product and expertise to the Dandridge General Store. Though her lovely and practical baskets are her trademark, Sharon’s love of nature opened another path that she has traveled for many years, that of a yesteryear practitioner. She has a deep appreciation for the lost arts of producing a bountiful garden that is particular to the needs of the gardener. Specialty gardening has been passed down from generation to generation, from Bee gardens to Remedy gardens, and Sharon is versed in the yesteryear gardening traditions.
Beginning in April, Sharon will be offering classes that will be taught at the Dandridge General Store. In these classes, she will share the traditions and benefits of yesteryear gardening. Classes will be appropriate for both the novice and accomplished gardener with varied amounts of space to work with, from containers to full blown fruit gardens. The first class, on Friday April 8, 2016 @ 6:30pm, will be geared toward those interested in beautiful and productive fruit trees. Those with limited space should not shy away, as Sharon will offer unique alternatives to large garden spaces. Those interested in taking this first look at yesteryear gardening practices can reserve their place in the class by calling 865-566-8656 or dropping by the Dandridge General Store to register. Class fees are $25 and can be paid at the door.
Sharon’s creative talents, including basket weaving and furniture making, will be the newest addition to the Dandridge General Store and will be coming this spring. The Dandridge General Store is located at 149 East Main Street, Dandridge, next to the City Barber Shop and across the street from the Jefferson County Post.
