ADOLPHUS “AL” PURYEAR

Adolphus “Al” Puryear, Jr., age 73, of White Pine, TN passed away on July 8, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Franklin, TN, the son of the late Adolphus and Millicent (Freeman) Puryear. He was preceded in death by his precious grandson, Cole Puryear, and his sister Carole Puryear Kammerud. Al was faithful in his love and devotion to God, family, and country. He was a veteran of the Air Force serving 4 years before attending the University of Tennessee for 4 years. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cecelia Stuart Puryear, and their family: daughter Michele and her husband Reggie Herndon and their daughter Laura of White Pine; son Glen Puryear and his wife Holly and their children Cade Puryear, Blake Warren, and Baleigh Warren of Niota; daughter Stephanie and her husband Brian Canfield and their children Mariah (Al’s ‘Blessing’) and Sean of Maryville. Extended family include sibling in-laws who remember Al’s devotion in the caregiving of their parents, nieces and nephews, special uncle E.F. Freeman and his wife Jackie, and friend/cousin James Mathis and his wife Mary.

A private burial service was held by the family. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 17 from 2-4pm in the Center of the First United Methodist Church, 1729 Main Street, White Pine. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Promises Kept, the non-profit Christian mission founded in memory of grandson Cole Puryear.
