James Michael Shelton Pleads Guilty To Aggravated Kidnapping and Domestic Assault

District Attorney General’s Office grateful to citizen who stopped crime

James B. Dunn, District Attorney General for the Fourth Judicial District, announces that on March 15, 2021, James Michael Shelton pleaded guilty to Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Domestic Assault in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Tennessee. The Honorable Judge Duane Slone sentenced the defendant to serve eight years in the Tennessee Department of Correction at 100%.

The defendant was convicted following an incident in the parking lot of Bojangles in Jefferson City. The defendant was in the act of assaulting his girlfriend when a citizen in the drive-through line exited his vehicle and drew a weapon on the defendant, stopping the assault. The defendant was then arrested by the Jefferson City Police Department.

The District Attorney General’s Office is grateful to the citizen who stepped forward to stop the crime and to Jefferson City Police Department for their work in apprehending the defendant and investigating the case.
