Douglas Lake became a cleaner place Thursday, April 20, 2023, when a group of  Jefferson County High School students came together to perform a much-needed trash pickup around its shores.

“Keep Douglas Blue” was the brainchild of Service Learning Student, Luke Haston, who put the project together from beginning to end as part of his semester service project. His idea was to combine the efforts of the Service Learning along with JCHS Youth Leadership Class. Mr. Haston chose the Dandridge Boat Dock and Flora Road Public Launch as the locations for cleanup. He also designed the t-shirts worn by the volunteers.

Mr. Haston said, “I have lived on the lake my entire life and would like to see Douglas Lake and the community a cleaner place to live.”

Keep Douglas Blue Clean-up Event was part of the Keep Jefferson Beautiful Program via the Mayor’s Office, TDOT, and Coordinator, LeAnn Sutton.
