Principal Changes In Jefferson County Schools

Jefferson County Schools will have some principal changes for the 2023-2024 school year. We are proud to announce the following: Ron Overton, Principal of White Pine School; Angie Rogers, Principal of New Market Elementary School; Emily Gwinn, Principal of Maury Middle School.

Mr. Ron Overton comes to White Pine School having served as an educator in Jefferson County Schools since 2011. Overton has both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tusculum University. He received an Educational Specialist degree from LMU in Instructional Leadership. Overton has served as a principal for the past 8 years with Jefferson County Schools, improving academics at each school. Rush Strong School was able to earn Reward School status under Overton’s principalship. Overton was named the 2022-2023 Principal of the Year for the school district.

Mrs. Angie Rogers has been with Jefferson County Schools for the past 26 years. Rogers received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Carson Newman. She earned her Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. Rogers began her career as a teacher at Mountain View Youth Detention Center and then became a teacher and a coach for Jefferson County Schools. She served as assistant principal at 2 different schools for a total of 8 years before becoming the principal at White Pine School, where she has served for the past 4 years. Rogers has a heart for the students and staff of Jefferson County Schools. White Pine Assistant Principal Chris Woods had this to say about Mrs. Rogers, “She is an amazing person to work with. She will lead with love and guidance.”

Mrs. Emily Gwinn has been appointed principal of Maury Middle School. Gwinn received her bachelor’s degree from Emory and Henry College. Gwinn also has a master’s degree in Secondary Curriculum and an EdS in Instructional Leadership. Gwinn participated in the Leadership Academy at the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Gwinn began her career in education in 2005 with Hamblen County Schools. For the past 3 years, Gwinn has served as the Assistant Principal at Maury Middle School and is very excited to continue her career in Jefferson County as a Hornet. Mrs. Gwinn is committed to partnering with the MMS community to create a learning environment of continuous growth and academic excellence for all Hornets.
