Phillip Batts to Step Down; Ron Overton Named as Replacement

Jefferson County Schools announces that Phillip Batts, Supervisor of Transportation and School Safety, will step down from his position effective December 27, 2024. Batts has been named the Chief of Police for the Town of Dandridge, where he will continue his distinguished career in public service.

“Phillip has been an integral part of our team, ensuring the safety and efficient transportation of our students while fostering a culture of preparedness and vigilance,” said Dr. Tommy Arnold, Director of Schools. “While we are sad to see him go, we are incredibly proud of his appointment as Chief of Police and wish him all the best in his new role.”

In conjunction with this transition, Jefferson County Schools is pleased to announce that Ron Overton will assume the role of Supervisor of Transportation and School Safety. Overton is currently the principal at White Pine School and brings extensive leadership experience, having also served as principal at Talbott, Rush Strong, and Maury schools.

“Ron Overton has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his career in education,” said Dr. Arnold. “We are confident that his expertise and commitment to student safety and success will make him an excellent successor to Phillip Batts.”

Additionally, Jefferson County Schools will be posting the position of principal at White Pine School in the coming days to ensure the continued leadership and excellence that the school community has come to expect.

“I am deeply grateful for my time with Jefferson County Schools,” said Batts. “It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community in my new capacity.”

A formal transition plan is in place to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities, with Overton officially assuming the role on December 20, 2024.
