The Rush Strong Plainsmen held their 2013 DARE graduation on Friday evening. Students spend instruction time during the year on the topic of drugs and drug abuse, in an effort to have a positive impact through education. The DARE program is a part of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and DARE officers spend hours of specialty training beyond their regular police training. Office Solomon heads a very active DARE program at Rush Strong School and students anticipate the annual graduation ceremony. Friday’s event was preceded by a graduation dance for the students. Several guest speakers at the graduation ceremony offered their personal testimonies concerning how drugs have impacted their lives. Local and State elected officials attended the ceremony including Tennessee House Representative Andrew Farmer. The DARE program strives to help students have a healthy and substance free life through intervention and early education.
