Eagles bow to Newberry 8-1

Jen Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) pulled out a 9-8 (10-5) win at no. 2 doubles to salvage the point over Tara Lamers and Ariel Strong.

However, Newberry (9-7, 2-2 SAC) won every singles match to stop Carson-Newman’s (4-8, 0-5 SAC) win streak at two matches.

Stefy Stand (Portugal) stood her ground at no. 1 singles before dropping a tiebreaker to Susana Aguirre 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.

The rest of Carson-Newman’s singles matches went the way of the Wolves in straight sets.

The Eagles’ Sunday match at L-R has been postponed till April 1 due to the threat of inclement weather in Hickory, N.C.

Instead the Eagles will face off with North Greenville next on March 27.
