The Jefferson County Budget Committee met on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse. The Meeting was Called to Order by Committee Chairman Griffith. Absent from Roll Call was Committee Member Baxley.  Upon a Motion from Committee Member Akard and 2nd from Committee Member Carmichael the Minutes were Approved.

Committee Member Maples made a Motion to Approve a request from the Jefferson County Department on Ageing for temporary help to fill in for an employee that is out for an extended period due to medical reasons. The request was for $4,593, which would come from fund balance. The Motion was 2nd by Committee Member Blevins and Passed.

Committee Member Beeler made a Motion to Approve a request from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for $83,954 to cover charges incurred by a prisoner at University of Tennessee Hospital. According to Jefferson County Sheriff McCoig, the prisoner was being held for attempted 1st degree murder but bond had not been set. The prisoner was thought to be suffering from alcohol and drug use, however it was discovered that he had a blood clot and was transferred to UT Hospital for treatment. The prisoner is now out on bond and covered by other insurance. Costs associated with his care were negotiated down 50%. Beeler’s Motion was 2nd by Carmichael and Passed with Blevins and Maples voting No.

Committee Member Dockery made a Motion to increase Commission Secretary position to full time hours and associated benefits. The Motion was 2nd by Committee Member Carmichael and Passed with Mills, Griffith, Akard and Beeler voting No.

The Meeting was Adjourned.
